It was somewhere around four o’clock in the afternoon and several rays of sunlight managed to touch down on Kumogakure through a formation of dark storm clouds that made up the sky. A purple and black sky with golden beams streaming down here and there, it was pleasant to look at in some odd way. The air smelled of recent rain and the wind was thick with moisture, molecules of water succumbing to the strength of a passing breeze and given the gift of flight. This was more or less a typical, and beautiful, day for Kumogakure citizens. Life went on as it must, the village was alive with movement and noise.
There were two men in particular that seemed to draw all available attention around them to themselves, every time their sandals clicked against the pavement of the road another citizen looked up. The two strolled casually, wrapped up in their conversation with one another and paying no mind to what went on around them. They were followed from above by three or four Kumogakure ninja that kept in constant motion, and every now and then the two men were approached by a inhabitant with a question or an interested child. This was just another in the life of a Kage.
Hikaru was walking with his arms folded over his chest, his facial expression making it known that he was wrapped up in deep thought. Of course he was wearing the shawl of the Raikage, the bright yellow and white cloak that covered everything from his neck down, but the man he was walking with was wearing Raikage robes as well. The only difference between the two was that Hikaru’s companion was shorter, older by the looks of his receding grey hair and collection of wrinkles, and was wearing the hat to the outfit as well. It wasn’t often that Yondaime and Sandaime Raikage came together and spent time wandering the streets like this. Student and teacher, past and present, it was surely a sight to behold.
”…I know what I must do, sensei. I’m just not sure how to go about it…”
Sandaime didn’t actually expect to hear Hikaru say those words, he’d truly matured as an adult over the past few years. Smiling lightly and chuckling, his elderly face seemed to illuminate with an peaceful intensity greater then that of the sun. He was the kind of man that could make you forget your troubles simply by resting his light green eyes on you and curving his thin lips. He attempted to relieve Hikaru’s mind with a simple gaze.
”Your not expected to know everything, even a Kage is a human. You come into this world the same as every one else, and you’ll pass on to the next world as well.”
Sandaime replied, his hands clasped behind his back and his steps growing faster. He knew the majority of these villagers from his time as Raikage, and so he greeted them all with hand shakes, hugs, and nods of the head as they passed one another. Hikaru fell back and walked behind him, doing the same after a second of hesitation. He was still thinking, Sandaime could tell by glancing back at him and reading his face. He spoke out in a playful voice, tantalizing Hikaru to push his worries away.
”If you stress, you’ll come to look like me much quicker then you’d like.”
He questioned if Hikaru was listening, his blue orbs obviously focused down on his feet. He wondered if Hikaru even remembered where he was, what he was doing. He’d become unnaturally involved with politics lately, perhaps he was trying to knock it all out in one blast and buy himself future relaxation time. Whatever the case was, it wasn’t healthy. Sandaime suddenly stopped walking dead in the middle of the road, his thoughts confirmed when Yondaime ran into his back and knocked his cone hat off of his head. Hikaru was quick to pick it up and hand it back once he snapped back to reality.
”Gomen, sensei...”
Sandaime brushed it off with another warmhearted smile and held the hat behind his back now in his locked hands, he tilted his head towards a bench that sat underneath a tree. There was a slight hill in the center of Kumogakure, and the bench was on it. A man could see a fair distance up the streets from that one spot. Walking towards it, Yondaime and Sandaime took a seat on the wooden bench, one of the rays of light found them and broke through the tree limbs as well to keep their bodies warm, and began to talk once again.
Sandaime’s eyes casually fixated themselves on Hikaru’s left wrist, his arm was pressed tight against his chest and the sleeves had rode up a tad. He remembered the day Hikaru discovered how convenient a summoning tattoo was and had a kanji branded into each wrist to summon his ninja tools, but this one, this one was new to him.
”I don’t think I’ve seen that kanji before, Hikaru. What is it?”
Hikaru didn’t have to look down in order to know what he spoke of. It was the newest addition to his arsenal, he’d just had it burned into his skin two days before this very moment. It was still healing, and so he couldn’t use it just yet. On the top of his left wrist was the symbol for the word Thunder. Smirking confidently for some unknown reason, Hikaru began to explain.
”I’m sure you remember the man I told you about earlier Sensei, the one named Zettai…? One of the things he gave me that day was a sword with very special properties that are naturally compatible to my fighting style.”
He unfolded his arms so he could pull his sleeve back down over his wrist, now his eyes were fixated on that covered spot. His smile only grew as Hikaru came to the point of his statement.
”…I keep the sword as close as possible.”
”Bah! You young ones are always doing something new to your bodies. You try to justify your markings with a purpose, but you know just as well as I do its in your generations genetics to brand themselves.”
He joked as he looked up to the warming rays of the sun shining through the clouds above. His beard was beginning to come in nicely, Hikaru could remember a time when it was quite uneven for some time. It was hard for him to believe his Sensei was actually aging. It seemed like just yesterday that they were both about half their current ages. Now, the Student was expected to step up and assume to role of a teacher. His mind quickly fell on thoughts of the future, a time when he would be the grey haired man looking to the sky while his student dreamed of times to come. Time was indeed a difficult thing to comprehend when it wanted to be…
Time Passes
NorthWest of Kumogakure and standing on one of the shorelines of Lightning Country, Hikaru looked down as the tide rolled in gently and soaked his partially exposed feet inside his sandals. As far as the eye could see, water was before him and sand was around him. The occasional rock and driftwood pile decorated the golden sand. He’d taken off the Kage robes he had been wearing earlier and folded them neatly before stepping out onto the shore, placing them on a rock some feet behind his person. Wearing only a fishnet shirt and dark grey warm up pants, Hikaru stepped ankle deep into the water and gazed out onto the horizon, the only sounds that came to his ears being the calls of seagulls and the crashing of waves farther out on the ocean. Sandaime was still in the village, so it was more then protected. Also, Sandaime knew how to get in touch with Hikaru despite the great distance between their locations. As soon as he caught wind of trouble in Kumo, he would use his Flying Thunder God Technique to return in an instant.
Wrapped in silence with blue pupils fixated on equally blue waves, the Raikage stood in wait of what the future had in store for him.

"What possessed me to come here?" Zen said as he walked along the beach. The only thing that kept Zen from leaving, was the idea that something good might come out of this trip to the beach. As Zen walked, he noticed he was getting weaker with each step. Ignoring that for now, Zen continued to walk on the beach. Each time Zen stepped, he left a foot print in the sand.
Zen wished he could feel the sand under his feet, but if he took of his shoes he could have problems. For Zen, even touching things proved to be a problem. Zen began to wonder what life would be like if he never had this curse in him. Zen became so engulfed in his thought, that he didn't realize where he was going. Zen quickly came back to his senses and made sure where he was. Cursing himself for his foolishness, Zen continued to walk along the beach.
After a while, Zen notices his chakra is decreasing fast. Zen reaches into his pack, and pulls out a water bottle. Zen takes small sips from the water bottle and kicks some sand around with his feet. After making sure he got most of his chakra back, Zen begins to continue walking and drinking the water. Zen finally began to notice he wasn't the only one on the beach. Zen looked around ans saw that there were many different people, but Zen continued walking since he didn't like company.
Zen turned around and noticed the water. Wishing that he could enjoy this sight, he continued to gaze across it. Zen moved his head as he heard a noise. Realizing that it was just his imagination, he turned back to look at the water. Zen sighed as he thought there would be nothing exciting here at the beach. That was until he saw a figure in the water, the figure of the Raikage.

Another step forward brought him deeper into the more shallow portion of the water, it came midway between his feet and his knees. The second step was what took him into knee deep water. This sand is uneven. He thought to himself, making a simple observation once he came to a stop. Looking out onto the horizon, it didn’t take long for him to forget his worries and abandon his stress. This location, setting, whatever you want to call it, ultimately put him in a pretty good mood. He closed his eyes and lifted his face somewhat to the sky as a miniature wave rolled in and kicked up a spray of ocean water, splashing his body from the jaw down. When Hikaru opened his eyes, a second wave came in and managed to spray his face this time around, with some assistance from the wind of course. As if the water wasn’t cold enough, now he had to deal with it on his upper body as well. Hikaru was about to turn and lie around in the sand for a moment when he noticed something, or rather someone, looking in his direction already. It was simply his nature to look back. Spiky hair, huh? Don’t steal my style kid. He joked to himself while leaving the shoreline. So he’s the one they complained about…the kid that doesn’t pass up the chance to set something ablaze. Around the time that Zen was first entering the academy, Sandaime was still the Raikage. Hikaru could remember some of the things villagers and parents complained to his sensei about back then, people would burst through his doors and interrupt some of their quiet time after a hard day of training and such. The kid with dark red hair and crimson eyes. It was pretty easy to guess what he would come to look like after the years for someone like him. ”Take your shoes off kid, it’ll make the whole experience more enjoyable.”Hikaru called out to the boy that now stuck out like a sore thumb. He was the only one here that didn’t look like he was enjoying himself. Hikaru didn’t actually expect him to take his shoes off on command, he was more waiting for a verbal response then anything else. He didn’t consider the kid a trouble maker like some of the others did, but if he was, he would be able to tell by the way he responded. One of the rock formations on the beach was rather flat, rose to his waist level, and hadn’t been heated by the sun just yet. Hikaru seized the moment to be lazy and sat on top of it after coming out of the water, his blue orbs still stuck to the red head kid.

Zen heard the offer and had a confused look on his face. Zen tried to figure out if the Raikage was making fun of him, joking, or didn't know of his abnormal body temperature. Coming to the conclusion that the Raikage was serious, Zen had a slight smile on his face. Zen continued to sip his water before he would reply to the Raikage. Zen thought to himself that at least this was getting interesting and it was better than being in a village with people that didn't want him around.
Zen knew how he answered this question would show the Raikage what type of person he was. Zen thought over the answer before even thinking of saying it aloud. Zen came to one conclusion, the only way to answer the question was to be truthful to the Raikage no matter how painful the truth could be. Zen gulped down the next sip of water because he was preparing himself to give the Raikage the answer.
Disappointed in himself for being so nervous to give a simple answer, Zen let out a sigh. Looking around he saw the Raikage on a rock now. Zen realized he was taking way too long to give his answer. Zen swallowed hard and gave his answer "Well, I would love to...but I can't due to health issues and it would most likely be uncomfortable for me." Zen was satisfied with his answer since he didn't really lie or anything like that.
Zen started to think that he should return back to village soon, he lets out a small sigh as he thinks that would be too soon. Taking another sip from his water bottle, Zen notices that it was almost done and that his chakra was already back for the most part. Zen had no idea that the Raikage was still looking at him, but when he did notice he couldn't meet the gaze of the Raikage.

”I figured as much…..Your name is Zen, right? I’ve heard quite a few stories about you.”
Hikaru remarked, still seated on the surface of the rock. From his knees down to his feet, his grey pants were turned almost black by the water. His skin reflected sun light from having been sprayed by ocean water, giving a sort of shining appearance. Normally, Hikaru didn’t mix well with water, but today was one of the exceptions. He took note of the fact that the boy kept drinking his water until there wasn’t any left. That cant be good, and he cant drink the ocean water. Maybe if he’d drink nutrient filled water inside of regular tap, he’d be able to go longer while drinking less. He wasn’t exactly one hundred percent sure what the story behind the kid was, but that was just Hikaru’s two cents.
Most people didn’t realize just intelligent Hikaru truly was, most people knew only as a Thunder God. They only knew him as a warrior. This was mainly because the only people that were around him the past during his ‘academic’ moments were the members of Team Sandaime. Even thought he was awaiting a reply, his mind kept working. The wheels in his head kept themselves spinning. He cant touch the water, but he drinks it…hmm… I heard he can seer flesh upon physical contact, and all these are tied into health issues….I wonder… Hikaru started to root around in his one of his pockets, he never once relieved Zen of his powerful gaze. He found what he was looking for and secured tight in a balled fist, obviously not wanting to put it out in the open at the moment. ”How’s your chakra control?”Hikaru asked inquisitively, remembering most gennin lacked the ability to balanced themselves on water by chakra means. By now, the two f them had a fair sized audience. The people around them couldn’t help but wonder what business a trouble maker had with the Raikage. It wasn’t like Zen was all alone though, Hikaru could remember a time when he wasn’t exactly in good standing with the people he shared a village with. His parents were ‘dishonorable’ and he was a brat, he was a late bloomer who had to work hard to tap into the natural talent that his brothers accessed so easily. The Raikage stood tall, his right hand still balled around his mystery item. His shadow stretched out a far distance one he stood fully erect, it was comically tall and skinny as can be. Although his ears were still listening for a reply, his eyes wandered elsewhere for a brief moment. A good glare from the Raikage is enough to silence even the fiercest of gatherings.

"Well Zen is a nickname, but yea thats basically what they call me..Stories? I bet none of them were good." The last part he knew was mostly true because there were less than a handful of people who would talk to Zen. Zen looked at his water bottle and thought to himself good thing I was smart and decided to pack more water, or else I could be in some serious trouble here.. Zen looked at the Raikage and saw that he was still looking at Zen.
Zen looked at the Raikage as he put his hands into his pockets. Zen thought to himself I wonder what he could be doing... Zen had an ominous feeling that there would be no way this could end well. his suspicions were confirmed when the Raikage asked about his chakra control. Zen knew out of all the genin, he probably had the best chakra control due to the fact he used jutsus when he was in the academy. The question was, how to answer the Raikage's question without it sounding like he was bragging or boasting.
Zen looked around to see people were gathering. He swallowed hard as he caught some nasty glares and heard some insulting remarks. Of course he was accustomed to this, but being near the great Raikage was enough pressure on him already. Also he had to answer that question, these people being here made it harder to answer. Zen thought that he might as well get it over with, these people here wouldn't stop their actions even if he said he was worthless.
"Well, I guess my chakra control is a bit higher than average." Zen thought that would be the correct answer but he wasn't sure if being able to do a Katon Goukakyuu whiles in the academy was average. Zen put the idea to the back of his mind, what was important now was what the Raikage had in his fist. Zen tried not to look curious but he thought he might be showing his curiosity. Zen tried to look away but as much as he tried he couldn't move his head from that darn hand.

Hikaru shrugged his shoulders, he obviously wasn’t going to elaborate on the stories he’d been told. Rather then spend his time prattling on about the negative, he decided to go for a different approach.
”Above average, just what I wanted to hear.”
The Raikage unballed his fist now, holding a slender string between the tips of his index finger and thumb. On the end of that finger was a circular bell, bright red in color with a high pitched chime. It rocked gently from side to side as Hikaru swayed his hands ever so slightly, its soothing ring filling the ears of all watching and grabbing the attention of all others. Alright kid, pull the wax out your ears and pay attention. This is your chance to earn some respect. ”Why don’t we play a game then? It’s simple, you get this bell from me within a certain time limit…and I’ll teach you a jutsu.”His offer sparked several responses from their onlookers. Static electricity started to race from head to toe along the Raikage’s frame, his began to glow with power. His hair, which was already standing on edge, took a more crisp look. The edges and points looked as if they could truly cut through solid material. Hikaru tossed the bell into the air several times in a taunting fashion, then secured it to his belt by tying the string in a tight knot. His feet were just out of reach of the water washing up onto the shore line. Hikaru took a step forward, and the crowd took a step back to give them more room to work with. He planned on making them all clear out in a moment. He just wanted them to witness Zen’s courage and some of his abilities before then…assuming he had any of either. His face frowned slightly and his blue orbs quickly became more stern, more serious. He brought both of his hands together infront of his chest and cracked his knuckles out loud, and then proceeded to rotate his neck from side to side with twists. His eyes were instructing Zen to accept, but ultimately, he couldn't force the gennin to do anything he didn't want to.

Zen stared at the Raikage as he said those words where what he wanted to hear. Zen cursed himself under his breath for playing into the Raikage's trap. Zen saw the bell and he stared at it in wonder, he also wondered why the hell did he have to pick a bell. Knowing that his feeling earlier was right, Zen let out a small sigh and took a step forward.
He heard the Raikage say if he got the bell then Zen would learn a new jutsu. Zen almost laughed, but he knew the Raikage was serious.Zen knew,of course, that there was no way a sickly genin like him could take a bell from the strongest ninja in the village. Zen now had a serious look on his face. he knew that he had to accept this challenge for multiple reasons. Zen bowed before the Raikage in a respectful manner before he would give his reply to the challenge.
"I accept." Was all that Zen said or needed to say. Remembering the Raikage used raiton (obvious much?), Zen revealed both of his hands. he then removed both of his gloves and threw them to the side. He turned around and saw that he threw the gloves far into the water. His eyes widen as he sees that they instantly sink. Zens hands are now shown and the if anyone looked at his hands they could practically see the heat rise. Zen stumbles a step forward as he realizes he is beginning to lose chakra again.
Zen went into his fighting style as he waited for the Raikage to announce the time limit and for the Raikage to make the first move. Zen struggled to keep himself in his stance and he struggled not to show any sign of pain to anybody. Zen knew he would have to outsmart the Raikage and he knew he would have to do it fast..Zen only had one thought circulating in his mind How do I get myself stuck in these situations?

Hikaru smirked, the kid reminded him of himself already. Overlooking the obvious, he’d already stepped in too far. Hikaru’s voice tone was strong and commanding, it was the voice he used with his most irritating of office aids and attendants. Of course, before he spoke, Hikaru also bowed out of respect.
”I do this more often then you may think. No one has ever passed my bell test before, and I doubt anyone ever will.”
He exaggerated a touch, but only to build up hype. He sighed quickly, obviously something had gone wrong in the past few seconds. Looking up at the gennin as he prepared himself for combat, Hikaru noticed that his gloves were now submerged under water. That wasn’t a big deal, the worst case scenario would be that they were swept into deeper depths by rouge currents. In that case, someone would be sent to fetch them. His pupils fell back onto Zen. How long do you think your going to last? Get your mind working kid. In most bell tests, the instructor would flee and conceal themselves to prompt the gennin to use all their available skills and resources to draw them out. That wasn’t the case this time around. Hikaru didn’t have anywhere to hide, nor did he intend to flee. He was going to fight back if Zen made the first move. If Zen hesitated, Hikaru would launch the first attack. ”You have two hours, Zen. “He quickly ran through a chain of hand seals, preparing himself to attack or counter attack. He outstretched his right arm and pointed his index finger at Zen, taking aim. ”Begin!”The static electricity dancing around his body quickly arced off of his person and flew towards the people surrounding them. It fell short of the crowd and dug into the sand, kicking up dusts in the process. Altogether, this forced all the spectators to retreat even farther back, they had a pretty big circular area to work with. Three sides of people, and an endless area of water. Hikaru was still standing in that one spot, pointing his finger at Zen. His eyes were locked, unflinching, and the bell chimed in the wind. Silently, he welcomed combat.

Zen knew that time limit didn't matter. He wouldn't be able to stay in battle for two hours. Now he had to think how to outsmart the Raikage. If it was a match of chakra, stamina, endurance, or things like that Zen would be at a horrible disadvantage. He studied the Raikage and knew his feet were wet. That could be an advantage, but Zen didn't have strong enough raiton jutsus. The best he could do was probably shock the Raikage's feet a little bit. Oh well, it was worth a shot anyway.
Once Zen hears the word begin, he starts out with a slow chain of handseals. After he finishes, he launches the attack. Rairyuu No Tatsumaki Zen yells as a lightning dragon flies towards the Raikage. The lightning dragons attempts to slam itself into the Raikage's feet, and if he jumped then the dragon will follow him upwards. After launching that, Zen follows it up with a fast chain of handseals this time he spoke softly Katon Goukakyuu No jutsu Zen inhaled and then exhaled his breath. A stream of fire came out of his mouth, Zen didn't notice but when he first exhaled the fire it was a very faint color of blue, but that only lasted for a second it turned its normal color after that. The fireball grew past the size of an average Goukakyuu and then went forward to slam into the Raikage's chest.
Zen knew the Raikage would easily dodge the attack, but it was the best thing he could think of on the spot. Zen then fell on one foot as he notices he was using too much chakra at the begining of the match. Cursing himself, Zen got back up on his feet and looked towards the direction of his attacks. Zen hoped there would be an opening so he could quickly grab the bell before the match became too long. Zen began to wonder if this new jutsu was just a trick the Raikage used to get Zen to fight with him.
Zen knew he couldn't use his doujutsu in this match. if he did, then he would reveal their clans technique and probably drag too much attention to the clan. This match was turning against Zen and he knew it. He might be forced to pull out the atsusangan later, but if he was in that situation he would have to quit the fight before that. He would have to somehow get the bell without using his full power. Zen knew that is not possible but he would have to try anyway to prove himself in front of the Raikage.

Hikaru sighed yet again and lifted his left hand to the same level as his right, opening his entire palm instead of only using a finger. They always fail right from the start, what are they teaching them at that ninja academy. All these gennin know to rely on is their jutsu. Considering that a gennin is the lowest official ninja rank there is, that’s not a good thing. Lightning molded chakra gathered at the tip of his pointed finger and grew into a miniature ball of light. He was preparing to use two jutsu at one, one of them didn’t require hand seals. He had already prepared the other ahead of time.
The first matter that had to be dealt with was the lightning coming for him. His face didn’t show any concern or interest in the approaching dragon in the least bit. His only response was to take a quick, but casual step back. The bell chimed out softly as it swung on his hip. The dragon was intended to strike his feet, but suddenly it swayed off course and make contact with his opened hand instead. As quickly as the dragon had come into being, it was absorbed into Hikaru’s person. The Raikage tilted his head to the side a touch and shrugged the feat off, not making a big deal out of things.
Next was Zen’s fireball, or Great Fireball, if you will. Hikaru wasn’t of Katon affinity, but he still knew a thing or two about Fire Balls. This one was pretty hefty in size, the kid had obviously been practicing it. He made a mental note of its peculiar color as well, we would remember it even though the blue shade was only temporary. The fire went the same way as the lightning dragon, it made contact with his open palm and then ceased to be. He’d successfully absorbed both of the gennins techniques.
”…Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week…”
He was still standing there with his finger pointing at Zen, his left hand back at his side now. The wind barely shook the stiff spike that he called hair, and the bell chimed out loud once again. Hikaru waited until Zen had stood back up and then went on the ‘offensive’.
”Raiton: Rensa Ninjuu no Jutsu !”
A single stream of lightning shot out from Hikaru’s finger and attempted to wrap around Zen and bind him. Hikaru wouldn’t use his chakra to shock Zen if it caught him though, that much wasn’t necessary. He simply wanted to bind him in place and get his mind working. Maybe then he’d be able to figure out just what the Raikage was getting at.
”Let me know when your at wits end.”

Zen watched as both of his jutsus had no effect on the Raikage. Thinking to himself Hmm, just as I though. I'll have to somehow win this without the use of jutsus. Zen took a step backwards. Zen saw as the Raikage pointed his fingers at Zen and then as lightning came out of the fingertips. Zen's eyes widen as he thinks to himself this is not gonna end well Zen quickly bolted to the towards the water thinking it could stop the lightning. When Zen got close to the water he pushed his hands into it, Zen screamed in pain but kept his hands inside. He then splashed the water onto the chains of lightning. Zen didn't stop until all of the chains were gone.
Zen then gained an idea. He kept both of this hands in the water and then splashed the water towards the Raikage thinking that it could help him. Zen then walked back steam literally came out from his hands. Zen looked under him and smiled when he remembered he was on sand. Zen put both of his hands on the ground. He then picked up the sand and threw it at the Raikage in an attempt to blind him.
Once Zen threw the sand, he put one hand in his cloak. He pulled out some wire, and threw one end at the Raikage's feet to try and blind them. Zen stopped throwing sand and started to breath heavily now. The steam kept coming from Zen's hand. Zen knew his chakra was draining fast now, and if he didn't drink water soon it could be over for him. Zen thought of what would happen if the Raikage was trapped and realized he hadn't thought that far ahead.
Leaving that thought alone, Zen put his hand into his pouch to get some water. Zen quickly decided it would be too soon if he drank water, and pulled his hand out of his cloak. He watched the Raikage closely to see what he would do and to see if he could see anything that would give him an advantage over the Raikage. Remembering what the Raikage said only moments earlier, Zen thought to himself Then, Is this supposed to take a month or a year?
